EMBC 2023

Specials Thanks to All Who Made Our Annual EMBS Conference Once Again a Great Success!

Dating back to 1960 we've been grateful to have many successful conferences over the years with this one being no exception. We were able to have 2,455 attendees with 50+ countries represented with almost half of them being students and 87% being international!

This conference exceeded our expectations, and we are so thankful to all who attended, all of those who are a part of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society and make this possible, our speakers, our organizing committee, Past EMBS President Metin Akay, and Current EMBS President Paul Sajda.

The Koala Competition

We had a fun competition for all attendees as well! We gave out Koalas for anyone to take around and find the perfect spot at our conference in Sydney or back at home to get a picture or video with them for our competition. Many participated and prizes were awarded.

But it gets better, we had some real ones there as well!

"Since 1953, women have played a large part in EMBS's scientific success. EMBS recognizes and values the role of female scientists and engineers have played in our overall societal success, and we pledge to continue to promote them by encouraging their involvement in our conferences, publications, technical, and membership activities and committees. We will continue to actively invite women to fulfill leadership roles in our society"

-Past President of IEEE EMBS Metin Akay

"Women have made substantial contributions to the field of biomedical engineering, and we believe their work should be recognized by our community. Our strategic initiative with regard to promoting women in biomedical engineering will be a cornerstone of our society's mission of applying engineering and technology to advance medicine and biology - and promoting the profession and settling the standard for diversity and inclusion throughout the STEM field. We look forward to continuing to host such forums and expanding them in the future, celebrating the achievements of our colleagues, and encouraging other women to join our profession as well."

-President of IEEE EMBS Paul Sajda
