Engineers and scientists today start their careers with excellent technical skills and knowledge within their fields of expertise. The Systems Council Newsletter includes time-sensitive news useful to the IEEE Systems Council’s participants.

President's Message

The focus of the message this quarter is publications. IEEE is a major publisher of scientific and technical content including books, journals, magazines, conference proceedings, courses, and standards. This content is searchable and accessible through the IEEE Xplore digital library of over 6 million documents which is increasing by approximately 20,000 new documents per month. The collection includes over 300 peer-reviewed journals, 1,900 global conferences, 11,000 technical standards, 5,000 eBooks, and 500 online courses. You don’t have to be an IEEE member to search IEEE Xplore for bibliographic records and abstracts, but a subscription is generally required to read the content unless it is available through open access.

Welcome Systems Council New Chapters!

Systems Council Chapters are located worldwide and provide an opportunity for those in the field of systems engineering to collaborate and network at the local level. This quarter the Council welcomed the addition of the following chapters:

• IEEE Delhi Section Systems Council Chapter (Region 10)
• IEEE Kenya Section Sensors & Systems Joint Council Joint Chapter (Region 8)

National Institute of Technology - Jamshedpur Inauguration!

The Systems Council Student Branch Chapter (SBC) National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur held its inaugural event on 5 September 2023. The event was hosted by Professor Gautom Sutradhar, Professor Shivajee Chakraborty, and Dr. K. Namarata. SBC Chapter Chair, Kumari Namara would like to give their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the Systems Council President Walt Downing and Online Distinguished Lecturer Program Chair Professor Sanjeevikumar for providing their constant support and helping make this event a success.

Conferences

SYSCON 2024: Call for Papers

The 18th Annual International Systems Conference (SYSCON) will be held at Delta Hotels in Montreal, QC, Canada on 15 - 18 April 2024. The conference caters to both practitioners and academics, providing a forum to exchange ideas and experiences on technology, methodology, applications, study cases, and practical experiences. Registration will open in January 2024.

RASSE 2023: Thank You!

SIEDS 2024: Save the Date

The Systems and Information Engineering Design Symposium (SIEDS) is a student-focused international forum for applied research, development, and design in Systems and Information Engineering. Abstracts are due 9 February 2024. The submission site will be open in January 2024.

2023 IEEE-HKN Student Leadership Conference

The IEEE Systems Council was proud to sponsor the 2023 IEEE-HKN Student Leadership Conference held on 3 - 5 November 2023 at The University of Houston. The 3-day event featured workshops, information sessions, panel discussions, networking, and an awards banquet to recognize outstanding chapters, students, and volunteer leaders. 

Walt Downing (IEEE Systems Council President) joined Tina Brumley (TestEquity) and Jim Cardinal (Burns & McDonnell) in a panel discussion moderated by Ryan Bales (IEEE-HKN President-Elect) on "Truly Understanding Your Customer: System Requirements and Why They are Important?"
