President's Message

image of Vincenzo PiuriDear Member of the IEEE Systems Council Community,

This is still a hard time for everyone around the world due to the pandemic. For some countries the situation is improving, while for others it is still hitting very hard. I hope that you, your families and friends are doing fine. I really hope that the virus will be defeated soon and no more people will suffer. As Systems Council, we are working to support our scientific and professional community to stay on the leading edge of knowledge and profession. Even though we are missing the personal interactions and networking during the meetings in physical presence, we transformed our conferences to virtual events to allow people to share ideas and experiences in our field. We are working to reduce the revision and publication time for faster dissemination of quality knowledge in our publications. We are also working on a new educational program in the area of systems and systems engineering, including tutorials and lectures from distinguished speakers. We are planning for more initiatives to support underserved groups and areas, for example by promoting Chapters and Student Chapters as they are the local roots of our worldwide community.

Please visit our website frequently for detailed information about our activities. Our newsletter will help you to remain updated on our activities as well as other information relevant for our field. Past issues are available on our website

If you have any comments, suggestions, recommendations, or criticisms, please do not hesitate to contact me. Everyone can help continuously improve our technical activities. We aim to continue to have live activities for our live community. With you, we strive to serve our community. Join us to make the difference in the world!

Looking forward to working with you for the benefit of our scientific and professional community and the entire humanity!

Ciao, Vin

Vincenzo Piuri
President, IEEE Systems Council

2020 IEEE Green Energy and Smart Systems Conference (IGESSC)
IGESSC will be held virtually on 2-3 November 2020. Visit the website for a program details and to register.

The conference brings together researchers and practitioners to present and disseminate ongoing research for smart systems, sustainable and green energy technologies. This year, the focus would be on the application of data science in smart grid and smart systems, Internet of Things, Sustainable and Secured Systems, Optimized Power Grids with Battery, Transportation Systems, Smart Satellite and Aerospace Technology.

While we could not be together in person this year, we were excited to virtually bring together a community of people to address the convergence of cybersecurity, safety, and engineering with interest in the effective application of security principles, methods, and tools to complex systems such as cyber-physical systems, autonomous systems, transportation vehicles, medical devices, large IoT systems, and other systems of interest. In attendance was over 60 attendees from 12 different countries. We hope you enjoyed the virtual conference!
2021 IEEE International Systems Conference
Save the date! The 15th Annual IEEE International Systems Conference will be held in Vancouver, BC, Canada on 22-25 March 2021. Special Session submissions are due 10 September 2020. Abstract and full paper submissions are due 10 October 2020. Additional details, call for papers, and registration will be on our website soon.
IEEE Systems Council Publications News
IEEE Systems Journal

The IEEE Systems Journal (ISJ) is the technical journal of the IEEE Systems Council. This publication provides a systems-level, focused forum for application-oriented manuscripts that address complex systems and system-of-systems of national and global significance. It intends to encourage and facilitate cooperation and interaction among IEEE Societies with systems-level and systems engineering interest, and to attract non-IEEE contributors and readers from around the globe.

Journal on Miniaturization for Air and Space Systems (J-MASS)

The IEEE Journal on Miniaturization for Air and Space Systems (J-MASS) is a new technical journal devoted to covering the rapidly evolving field of small air and space systems such as drones and small satellites. These platforms offer new, low-cost ways to accomplish a wide range of sensing functions for applications ranging from agriculture to land use and ocean surveys.

In June 2020, J-MASS published its very first issue covering topics that ranged from the development and use of miniaturized platforms such as drones and CubeSats. Manuscripts must be submitted through Manuscript Central and should be original work within this scope. Manuscripts submitted to this journal must not have been published before and must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere.
