The IAS Executive Board has recommended changes to the IAS Constitution for approval at the upcoming IAS Council meeting in September. There are changes required by IEEE Board to maintain consistency in the language used to describe which members are eligible for certain Society Officer and Executive Board roles, and a change to the language on meetings processes that aligns with current IEEE processes. In accordance with IAS Bylaws, the proposed draft constitution with tracked changes is available on the IAS website. This notification of upcoming changes is to permit members an expression of opinion directly or through their representatives on the Council.
IAS Council membership consists of the Society Executive Board and all Society Past Presidents (who are members of the Institute), Department officers of the Technical and Operating Departments, Technical Committee
and Standing Committee Chairs of the Technical Departments, Area Chairs of the Chapters Department, and Committee Chairs of the Operating Departments and Editors-in-Chief of IEEE publications in which the IA Society has a 1/2 or larger financial interest.

Abstract: In the past decade, there has been noticeable growth in the use of low-power passive instrument transformers (aka Sensors) based on the Rogowski coil principle for current and resistive or capacitive voltage divider principles for voltage. These advanced technologies have been utilized in various applications from secondary to primary distribution in both indoor and outdoor applications.
These sensors provide an advanced alternative to using conventional instrument transformers in electrical distribution systems for measurement, power quality, and protection applications. In this webinar we will cover the basics of this technology and the applicable standards. We will discuss various aspects of the integration of this technology into distribution switchgear and describe the significant resulting benefits in terms of safety, sustainability and performance.

The IEEE IAS Board has approved the addition of a NEW Digital Edition of IEEE Industry Applications Magazine. Beginning with this issue of the monthly IAS e-Newsletter, the Magazine Digital Edition will be available from a link at the end of every e-Newsletter issue. IAS members previously had access via a “Get Entire Issue Now” link from IEEE Xplore, but this was just a static flat PDF. The NEW Digital Edition includes navigation to selected articles from a Table of Contents Sidebar, a page turning feature, Zoom and download of individual articles, email authentication, access to back issues from the Home page and much more. We hope you test-drive the new Magazine Digital Edition.

When members log in using a new browser or device, the S1M system will automatically trigger a verification process by sending a confirmation email containing a code. This code must be entered in the browser to complete the login.
Please note that these emails are sent from an ieee.org address, and in some cases, may be mistakenly flagged as spam by corporate firewalls. To ensure smooth access to the system, we kindly ask all IAS members to whitelist IEEE email addresses or remove them from their blocked senders list.

Call for Papers: IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power and Electronics
Special Issue on Integrated Machine Drives
[ Image ] [[https://www.ieee-pels.org/publications/open-calls-for-papers/?IAS Newsletter July, 2025#JournalofEmerging]]
Integrated machine drives (IMDs), which combine the machine, power converter, and control system into a single unit, offer significant advantages in terms of efficiency, compactness, and ease of use. By eliminating the need for external control equipment, IMDs provide highly efficient and seamless solutions for a variety of industrial and commercial applications. Their integrated design reduces the mass and volume required for the converter and controller housing and removes the need for lengthy machine-converter connections, resulting in cost savings of 20% to 40%.
