IEEE NSU Industry Applications Society Student Branch Chapter in collaboration with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, IEEE NSU Student Branch, and supported by IEEE NSU PES Student Branch Chapter successfully hosted the seminar titled “Innovative
Horizon: Empowering Young Engineers in Analog Design and Beyond” on January 20, 2025.
This event aimed to bridge the gap between engineering students and Semiconductor Industries. The session focused on key VLSI Chip Design, Semiconductors, and Solid principles.
Dr. Abu Hena Mostofa Kamal, an esteemed engineering leader with a proven track record in the semiconductor industry was one of our keynote speakers for this seminar. He currently serves as
the Senior Director of Engineering at Ulkasemi and President of the Sonar Bangla Foundation (SBF). We also had Dr. Ion Opris, a distinguished circuit design engineer at Ulkasemi. Mr. Ion has previously been part of the Data
Acquisition Group at National Semiconductor Corporation for four years.
The event started at 3:30 PM with the honorable Vice Chancellor of North South University being invited to the stage by the anchors to share some words to begin the event. After that, Professor Atiqur Rahman gave a brief speech about the event and introduced us to the guests.
Then Dr. Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal was called to the stage to start his session titled “Opportunity for young engineers of EEE to work on Analog circuit design with Ulkasemi. He began by introducing himself to the audience. He shared about his career, academic background, and his journey with Ulkasemi. He shared his insights into the industry
with the audience. He shared his disappointment that Bangladeshi Engineers lack skills and don’t have a good enough background in VLSI Chip design.
After that Dr. Ion Opris was invited to the stage to conduct his session on the “How to Think out of the Box: My Few Innovations”. He showed his previous works and showcased his three projects after introducing himself and telling the audience about his career and academic background.
At the end of the sessions, the participants were encouraged to ask questions, and both speakers addressed each. Then the speakers asked questions to the participants about VLSI-related topics.
Those who managed to answer correctly were awarded. They also gifted all the participants a pen. After the end of the seminar, the Dean of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering handed a token of appreciation to both our keynote speakers. The participants found the session valuable and left with a wider concept of an Analog Design Engineering Career.
