Revised XES Standard Approved by IEEE SA

On 9 August 2023, the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA) approved the revised XES Standard. As a result, the original 1849-2016 XES Standard has now been superseded by the 1849-2023 XES Standard. The XES Standard is now an active IEEE standard until the year 2033. The revised XES Standard includes all standard extensions that were accepted so far. This Standard would not exist without the efforts of:

  • Moe Wynn, WG Chair
  • Wil van der Aalst, WG Vice Chair
  • Eric Verbeek, WG Secretary

The IEEE CIS Standards Committee expresses gratitude for their efforts and congratulates them for their scientific achievements.

Vanessa Lalitte, IEEE Program Manager, helped Moe, Wil, and Eric navigating the formal and administrative aspects of IEEE standards development.

2024 Graduate Student Research Grants: Call for Applications

The IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS) funds scholarships for deserving undergraduate, graduate and PhD students who need financial support to carry out their research during an academic break period. The primary intent of these scholarships is to cover the expenses related to a visit to another university, institute, or research agency for collaboration with an identified researcher in the field of interest of the applicant. Funds can be used to cover travel expenses as well as certain living expenses (such as housing). The field of interest of applicants is open but should be connected with an identifiable component of the CIS (neural networks, fuzzy systems, or evolutionary computation).

The deadline for submission of 15 March 2024. More information on the scheme can be found on the Graduate Student Research Grants webpage.

Learning Regularity for Evolutionary Multiobjective Search: A Generative Model-Based Approach

Vector : Rainbow arrows up with perspective stock illustration
The prior domain knowledge, i.e., the regularity property of continuous multiobjective optimization problems (MOPs), could be learned to guide the search for evolutionary multiobjective optimization. This paper proposes a learning-to-guide strategy (LGS) for assisting the search for multiobjective optimization algorithms in dealing with MOPs. The main idea behind LGS is to capture the regularity via learning techniques to guide the evolutionary search to generate promising offspring solutions. To achieve this, a generative model called the generative topographic mapping (GTM) is adopted to capture the manifold distribution of a population. Read more

Android Malware Detection Methods Based on Convolutional Neural Network: A Survey

Abstract Warning of a detected malware program stock phot

Android malware detection(AMD) is a challenging task requiring many factors to be considered during detection, such as feature extraction and processing, performance evaluation, and many available datasets. AMD aims to develop more effective algorithms and models to protect users' privacy and data security. Deep learning(DL) has recently received considerable attention in AMD, especially convolutional neural networks(CNN), which can handle binary data in Android applications more efficiently, avoid feature engineering, and cope well with rapid malware updates. In this article, we consider the problem of privacy-preserving distributed deep learning where data privacy is protected by fully homomorphic encryption. The aim is to develop a method for practical and scalable distributed deep learning with fully homomorphic encrypted data. The method must address the issue arising from the large computational cost associated with fully homomorphic encrypted data to offer a practical and scalable solution. Read more

Incremental Recursive Ranking Grouping for Large-Scale Global Optimization

Fractal neon deployment similar to a snail stock photo

Real-world optimization problems may have a different underlying structure. In black-box optimization, the dependencies between decision variables remain unknown. However, some techniques can discover such interactions accurately. In large-scale global optimization (LSGO), problems are high dimensional. It was shown effective to decompose LSGO problems into subproblems and optimize them separately. The effectiveness of such approaches may be highly dependent on the accuracy of problem decomposition.Read more

Cyber–physical–social systems (CPSS), an emerging cross-disciplinary research area, combines cyber–physical systems (CPS) with social networking for the purpose of providing personalized services for humans. CPSS big data, recording various aspects of human lives, should be processed to mine valuable information for CPSS services. To efficiently deal with CPSS big data, artificial intelligence (AI), an increasingly important technology, is used for CPSS data processing and analysis. Read more

Flexible Learning Models Utilizing Different Neural Plasticities

Abstract brain technological , science interface, digital blueprint of human, illustration vector design stock illustration

The existing models for vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) and optokinetic response (OKR) learning utilize neural circuit structure and capture a few characteristics of these two learning systems. However, it remains unclear how the error signals guide these learning processes. Here, we propose novel dynamic learning models using error feedback in a flexible fashion to account for both VOR and OKR learning. We first used a feedback modulation model (FMM) and found the error signals play an essential guiding role in the gain compensation of wild-type mice. Read more

Cognition-Driven Multiagent Policy Learning Framework for Promoting Cooperation

Fitness, health, gym trendy icons on circles stock illustration

Many attempts have been made to promote cooperation for multi-agent systems. However, several issues that draw less attentions but may dramatically degrade the cooperation performance still exist, such as redundant information interactions among neighbors, and difficulties in understanding complex and dynamic environments from high-level cognition. To address these limitations, a cognition-driven multi-agent policy (CDMAP) learning framework is proposed in this paper. Read more
