Call for AP-S Service-Learning Projects that Address the Local Environmental Community Needs
IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S) is partnering with EPICS in IEEE to bring US$50,000 to support AP-S Community Projects. The EPICS in IEEE service-learning projects are an opportunity for students to work with IEEE members to address the local environmental and climate change technological needs in their communities. Through their service- learning projects, the students will also develop critical knowledge and skills to help them succeed in their future engineering careers.

The EPICS in IEEE Fall Call for Proposals is supporting the IEEE Climate Change Initiative. Check out the Call for Proposals webpage for more information about how AP-S Members can create a team and submit a project proposal. All projects should have AP-S members involved and AP-S-relevant technology should be used in the proposed solution to address the environmental challenge. Selected projects will receive up to US$10,000, mentorship, and resources.

Nominations or self-nominations are solicited for the 2024 IEEE AP-S awards. There are six awards that the Society will give this year. A brief description of each award, its criteria, and a template of the nomination form are provided below. All nominations are subject to the terms in the AP-S and IEEE guidelines detailed in the Operating Manuals and Bylaws. Nominators are encouraged to review these guidelines before submission.

Abstract: Aging electrical wiring has been identified as an area of critical national and international concern. Faults in aircraft wiring have been implicated in a number of severe aircraft incidents including the TWA800 and SwissAir111 crashes. Electrical wiring is the number one cause of home and building fires, and is responsible for numerous incidents in consumer product safety, photovoltaic systems, vehicular safety/reliability, safety of nuclear facilities, reliability of power distribution systems and communication systems, and others.
