ANNOUNCEMENTS

A Message from Our New IES President, Prof. Milos Manic

[ Image ] [[https://iten.ieee-ies.org/announcement/2024/a-message-from-our-new-ies-president-prof-milos-manic]]

It is my great honor to wish Happy New Year 2024 to our readers and reflect on my priorities for IES in 2024.

If I had to describe my vision of IES, it would be a holistic approach to, as I would like to call it, ONE IES. From capitalizing on “interdepartmental” synergies, to opening new opportunities for young professionals and pathways to new leaders, we will continue enhancing opportunities for inclusive and professional growth in IES. Some novelties include virtual town halls and webinar-enabled AdCom meetings to all 11,000 IES volunteers and increased investments in student travel awards to our conferences.

Extending Society’s bold and decisive focus on strategic development established at the IES first strategic workshop VISION 2030 last year, continuing finance as an enabler through expansion of internal calls for proposals towards innovation, education, industry involvement, introducing student competitions on contemporary research areas such as industrial AI and cybersecurity, reinforcing quality of conferences, continuous reshaping of our 24 technical committees, growing industry involvement, introducing analytics tools for data-driven decisions towards growth of society, are just a few examples of what is coming.

I extend my invitation to all to take an active role in IES and find your professional family here.

President, IEEE Industrial Electronics Society,

Prof. Milos Manic

Distributed Hierarchical Control for Fast Frequency Restoration in VSG-Controlled Islanded Microgrids

[ Image ] [[https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/9869318]]

This paper proposes a distributed hierarchical control to generate multi-rate sampling control signals for inverters to achieve stable and fast frequency restoration. Based on the virtual synchronous generator (VSG) primary control, a novel distributed event-triggered frequency restoration algorithm is proposed.
