This special issue aims to bring together researchers and practitioners from industry, laboratories, academia and government to present the challenges and opportunities related to transportation electrification systems.
As the former IEEE Region 8 Director, our new VP Membership Antonio Luque reminds us how IEEE and IES serve humanity. In line with this, he announces a new Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion team in the Society. Discover a professor always on the move and creative in everything he does.
Dr. Ya-Jun Pan, the recently appointed Coordinator for IES Women-in-Engineering, announces that the new WiE website has been launched in March 2023 right around International Women’s Day. Discover her bio and the exciting projects of this dynamic team.
The 17th International Conference on Compatibility, Power Electronics, and Power Engineering, focusing on power electronics, renewable energy integration, power generation, transmission and distribution, electromechanical energy conversion, automation, and EMC/EMI issues will be held 14-16 June 2023 in Tallinn, Estonia.
The 28th ETFA, the Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society focusing on the latest developments and new technologies in the field of industrial and factory automation, will take place 12-15 September 2023 in Sinaia, Romania.
This article reviews the state-of-the-art architectures of the off-grid and hybrid charging systems for Electric Vehicles. It also investigates their different subsystems, such as single or multiple energy sources, power electronics converters (PECs), energy storage systems (ESS), and energy management strategies (EMS), to present the current status and technology trends.
The article proposes a multisource converter for renewable power and energy storage, integrating supercapacitor-battery hybrid systems, wind, and photovoltaic sources. The configuration provides built-in voltage regulation, transient handling, and transformer inclusion, validated by simulations and experiments.
Tom Oomen (Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands) – 16 January 2023
Iterative Learning Control (ILC) can achieve perfect performance for motion systems. In this webinar, a general learning framework of ILC is presented that exploits measured error signals from previous tasks. In addition, a complete design framework for motion systems is provided.
Nihal Kularatna (University of Waikato, Hamilton, New Zealand) – 31 January 2023
Supercapacitors can help develop uniquely new families of extra low-frequency power converters and protection circuits, identified as Supercapacitor Assisted (SCA) techniques. This presentation summarizes these SCA techniques, and compares them with traditional power electronic building blocks.
