The 16th edition of IEEE International Conference on compatibility, Power Electronics and Power Engineering will be held from 29 June to 1 July 2022 in Birmingham.

The IEEE-IES Technical Committee on Factory Automation (TCFA) promotes synergic interactions between experts from industry and academia to foster the development and adoption of scientific methods, models, and tools for the efficient design and operation of industrial and factory automation systems.

The TCFA architecture consists of different layers, corresponding to its SCs: the basic layers are Industrial Communication, Real-time Systems, Control, Security and Dependability; the cross-layer topics, such as Wireless Sensor Networks and Cyber-physical Systems, link them to the application areas, including Robots, Vehicles and HMI capabilities.

The modular multilevel converter (MMC) is one of the modern power converter topologies. In this paper, a review of the latest research and development on MMCs is shown, focusing on the challenges and proposed solutions this power converter still faces in terms of modeling, control, reliability, power topologies, and new applications.
