NEWS IN OUR SOCIETY

Prof. Thilo Sauter is known in our IES Society as a Vice president for Publications. In this article, you will also read that he turned his own house into a living lab for his research students. Discover a passionate professor, who keeps pace in everything he’s doing: precision clock synchronizing, hiking, ballroom dancing and more…

The 20th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics INDIN will take place 25 to 28 July 2022 in Perth, Australia. INDIN’22 conference will provide a forum for presentation and discussion of the state-of-art and future perspectives of industrial information technologies.

During the last couple of years, new IES Chapters were established in Africa: Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Kenya and Uganda. This is yet another manifestation of the diversity and inclusiveness of our Society. Welcome to them! Click "Read more" for details.

MEET OUR TECHNICAL COMMITTEES

The aim of the IEEE IES Technical Committee on Transportation Electrification (TCTE) is to bring together researchers from the industry, government, and academia under the common theme of automotive technology (transportation electrification). Other committees also study major aspects of automotive technology, however, there exists no single committee addressing all issues in one place. There are many facets to the technology, which include electric/plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (EVs/PHEVs), advanced energy storage systems, plugged/wireless charging infrastructures, power electronics, motor drives, fuel cells, and integration with renewable energy/smart grid.

FEATURED TECHNICAL ARTICLES

This paper rethinks the technical route of plant-wide process monitoring and highlights the alternative research route where the construction of performance evaluation systems and the development of performance-oriented fault diagnosis approaches play the central role. The key research questions, the future research directions, and an outlook about the future vision of “Plant-Wide Process Monitoring” are discussed in this roadmap paper.

This paper proposes a harmonic state space (HSS) modeling framework for dual active bridge (DAB) that overcomes the harmonics modeling limitation in common large signal models and accurately models both the AC and DC states depending on the inclusion of the number of harmonics in it. This modeling framework presents a straightforward approach and has a definite structure, which presents flexibility and ease in deriving the input-output relationship.

IF YOU MISSED THE LAST IES WEBINARS
– CATCH UP NOW!

By Pedro Neto and Mohammad Safeea (University of Coimbra, Portugal) – 8 December 2021

Robots sharing common workspaces and tasks need to safely interact, collaborate and learn with humans. This talk presents reinforcement learning and sim-to-real approach as a step towards building autonomous robot – learning with a higher-level understanding of the world and avoiding collisions in unstructured environments.

By Jiabin Wang and Antonio Griffo (University of Sheffield, UK) – 14 December 2021

In this talk, the effects of impulse and high frequency pulse width modulation (PWM) voltages produced by fast-switching power electronic converters on voltage distributions in machine winding and insulation systems are analyzed and characterized. Lifetime test results under partial discharges caused by high voltage slew rate is also highlighted.
