Modern transportation is on the verge of transition in response to the climate change and resource scarcity, witnessed by the readily proactive deployment of electrical vehicles, vessels and aircrafts, with strong growth foreseeable in the coming decades. This motivates the design and control of high efficiency power electronics due to their enabling role in energy storage integration. This IES humanitarian initiative, lead by Prof. Morgan Kiani, aims to improve the health and education in Honduras by introducing off-grid solar powered lighting, charging station, and cooking fans for Hogar CREA Madres, a campus located in San Matias municipality of Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Phase one was finished by the end of May and it was dedicated to provide lighting. Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESSs) are promising solutions for mitigating the impact of the new loads in distribution networks induced by high penetration of Renewable Energy Sources and mass deployment of Electric Vehicles. This paper aims at providing a comprehensive view of BESSs integration in distribution grids, highlighting the main focus, challenges, and research gaps for each one of these aspects.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

This work aims to comprehensively review and develop gate drivers and consolidate various required design features concerning their galvanic isolation stage, based on normal and short-circuit operation of MV high power converter systems. This review paper also aims to provide design choices and guidelines for the gate drivers, accelerating the growth and deployment of MV SiC devices for field applications and commercial adoption.

In this webinar, a unified theory for generic loss minimization by optimal feedforward torque control (OFTC) of electrical machines is presented which allows to analytically compute (i) the optimal direct and quadrature reference currents for all operating strategies, such as MTPC, MC, FW, MTPV or MTPF, and, in particular, Maximum Torque per Losses (MTPL, which considers copper & iron losses) (ii) the transition points indicating when to switch between the operating strategies due to speed, voltage and/or current constraints.
