NEWS IN OUR SOCIETY

The IEEE Resource Centers have thousands of in-depth technical resources, accessible from any location, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and developed by engineering and technical experts across many science and technology topics.

At Industrial Electronics Society, the IES resource center is managed by IES Multimedia Committee and, as an IES member, you could find tutorials, our previously recorded webinars, and conferences… as if you were there!

The 2021 IEEE Energy Conversion Conference and Expo (ECCE) is making its West Coast rotation to Vancouver, Canada, 10-14 October 2021. This flagship conference from our sister Society PELS is a podium for presenting the latest power electronics, electric machines, and drives research, their applications, and engineering training. For those unable to travel to the event, the program will run in parallel using Vfairs, a widely adopted virtual event platform, providing participants with the closest “in-person” experience possible. The exhibition takes place over the first two days, at the height of conference attendance.

MEET OUR TECHNICAL COMMITTEES

Industrial systems potentially require large amounts of data to be collected and processed in a timely and reliable manner. The goal of our Technical Committee is to provide a collaborative environment for showcasing researchers and practitioners’ work on using emerging cloud and wireless technology together with related concepts, such as the Internet of Things, to build new and improve existing industrial applications. In doing so, we advise and support members in organizing special interest sessions and tutorials at IES conferences.

The Technical Committee (TC05) on Education in Engineering and Industrial Technologies in Industrial Electronics Society is an interdisciplinary forum for the development, implementation, discussion, assessment and dissemination of novel and effective methods to enhance, modernize and improve education in engineering and industrial technologies. The main topics comprehend curricula/course development, remote engineering, distance and blended education methodologies, project-based learning, remote and virtual laboratories, tools for efficient teaching/learning and lifelong education in engineering disciplines.

FEATURED TECHNICAL ARTICLE

This paper proposes a remote control method with the force assist to improve the operability of a mobile robot. The force feedback is generated on the basis of the time to collision (TTC) and translational velocity. The TTC is calculated from the predicted trajectory and environmental information, and is used as an indicator of the possibility of collision.

IF YOU MISSED IES WEBINARS - CATCH UP NOW!

by Dr. Hady Habib (Heliopolis University for Sustainable Development, Egypt) - 20 April 2021

This webinar presents a modern secondary voltage control application in a 100% renewable energy grid fed mainly by photovoltaics and wind farms, a frequency control application in a fully sustainable marine microgrid fed by tidal, offshore wind and waves technologies and the planning for turning a community to grid-tied 100% sustainable energy zero cost.

by Christoph Hackl (Munich University of Applied Sciences – MUAS, Germany) - 21 April 2021

In this webinar, a unified theory for generic loss minimization by optimal feedforward torque control (OFTC) of electrical machines is presented which allows to analytically compute (i) the optimal direct and quadrature reference currents for all operating strategies, such as MTPC, MC, FW, MTPV or MTPF, and, in particular, Maximum Torque per Losses (MTPL, which considers copper & iron losses) (ii) the transition points indicating when to switch between the operating strategies due to speed, voltage and/or current constraints.
