NEWS IN OUR SOCIETY

IEEE Industrial Electronics Egypt Chapter, Guadalajara Chapter and Application Power Electronics Austria Joint Chapter jointly organized a conference online on 1 March 2021. The conference purpose was to study the impacts of COVID-19 on Energy, Water and Transportation and also to present new related engineering applications.

IEEE IES is proud to present this kind of initiatives, and encourages further collaboration between Chapters from different continents within IES community.

IEEE IES is full of talented individuals.

Talents show on our webinars, they show on our website, and in our monthly Newsletters, but they can also show in some other situations.

We invite you to discover a new and talented side of our IES Vice-President, Prof. Roberto Oboe, who agreed to share with us his Italian secrets on how to prepare a pizza "as in all engineering projects." That means, with materials, tools, and methods. But not without a touch of humor.

IES launched its very first two technical webinars in September 2020. But to test in advance the GoToWebinar platform, the new "Multimedia Committee" has conducted this test run in August, and with that in mind: the pizza webinar idea was born.

Please enjoy this recorded webinar. You will learn some very interesting tricks… But, we have to warn you, after watching this video, you’ll never make pizza the same way (and you might never use pineapple again).

MEET OUR TECHNICAL COMMITTEES

The Technical Committee on Renewable Energy System assembles together members from Academia and Industry with the common goal of improving the technology related to the renewable energy sources. Topics of interest are the extraction, the power conversion techniques, the controls and the interface to the electrical grids of systems having a renewable energy source element. The committee is active in promoting the scientific activities at the relevant conferences and journals as well as the development of national/international standards.

Technical Committee on Sensors and Actuators (TC-SA) seeks new sensors and actuators for human support technologies in daily life and a wide variety of productions. Human support technologies enable new man-man/man-machine communications to have a comfortable life and to support aged peoples. The coverage fields of the TC-SA include haptics and force control, new sensing structure and new actuation system, fault tolerance of sensor and actuator for control applications, sensing system and Actuator for precise control, robot sensing systems and more.

FEATURED TECHNICAL ARTICLE

This paper presents a technique to restore the simplicity of FHA analysis in the case of parallel and series-parallel resonant converters terminated with capacitive filters. The authenticity, simplicity, and accuracy of the proposed technique are demonstrated through results. Further, a detailed comparison with existing modeling techniques is also provided.

IF YOU MISSED IES WEBINARS - CATCH UP NOW!

by Wen Cao (Aston University, IE-13 Chair, UK) – Tuesday, 16 February 2021

This webinar deals with the publication process for the IEEE Transactions with a focus on the field of electrical and power engineering. You will learn how to prepare for good quality research and innovations, and then high-quality manuscripts.

by Makoto Iwasaki (Nagoya Institute of Technology, JAPAN) – Friday, 19 February 2021

This webinar presents a practical motion controller design technique for precision positioning devices including strain wave gearing, e.g. industrial multi-axis robots, precision rotation stages, etc. It focuses on the accurate settling and vibration suppression in positioning, in order to improve the performance deteriorations by applying model-based feedforward and feedback control approaches.

by Bharat Balagopal & Mo-Yuen Chow (North Carolina State University, USA) – Wednesday, 9 December 2020

This webinar addresses the issues associated with current battery monitoring systems, their pros and cons and provides insights into new technology that has been developed to not only model but also provide live status updates regarding the battery’s SOC, SOH and RUL when the battery is in use.
