Attention Officers of EDS Chapters!

To support the exploration and development of activities and best practices for growing membership, special-project funding is available to support our Society's Chapters with new initiatives specifically targeting member recruitment and/or retention.

Proposals must be designed to enhance the participation of student members, young professionals, women, and under-represented communities (i.e. ethnic, social, or economic groups) in our Society's membership.

Chapter Events are the Key to Vibrant IEEE Communities

IEEE EDS chapter-organized activities feature lectures by distinguished members of academia and industry, provide access to conference workshops, and volunteer opportunities with EDS funded humanitarian projects. Networking and collaboration opportunities abound when you join a local chapter.

Sustainable Materials based Sensors

Electronics towards Circular Economy and Environment Sustainability. A project directed by the Bendable Electronics and Sensing Technologies (BEST) Group at University of Glasgow, with funding provided by the IEEE Electron Devices Society.

Electronic waste containing hazardous and toxic substances is becoming a major issue threatening the environment sustainability and thus affecting the social life. There is nowadays greater focus on develop electronics, sensors, energy storage/generating and communication devices by sustainable environmentally friendly materials.

Considering this aspect, the engineers at University of Glasgow demonstrated the jute fiber based energy autonomous systems with jute fiber-based supercapacitor (SC), moisture and temperature sensors. The SC can power the jute‐fiber based sensors, thus demonstrating an attractive eco‐friendly solution for applications such as wearables and bags (alternative to plastics).
