Announcing: New Joint MGA/TA Chapter Support Committee to Strengthen Global Chapter Engagement

Starting January 2026, IEEE will launch the new MGA/TA Chapter Support Committee—a joint effort between Member and Geographic Activities (MGA) and Technical Activities (TA). Until now, MGA had its own Chapter Operations Support Committee, and TA managed a subcommittee under the TAB Committee on Technical Community Outreach, Engagement and Society Membership. Both groups worked hard to help Chapters succeed, but now those efforts are coming together under one roof. This means more streamlined support, better resources, and a single team focused on helping Chapters thrive.

Why does this matter? Chapters are an integral part of IEEE, and this collaboration is all about making life easier for volunteers and providing impactful programs and benefits for members. The new committee will tackle everything from improving tools and funding processes to sharing best practices and creating spaces for Chapters to connect. It’s a big step toward One IEEE, bringing geographic and technical communities closer than ever. With strong ties across Regions, Sections, Societies, and Technical Councils, Chapters and Student Branch Chapters will continue to be vibrant hubs of innovation and member engagement. We’re excited to see the impact this will have on Chapters worldwide!

The new MGA/TA Chapter Support Committee volunteers and staff welcome your feedback to [email protected].

Action of the Month

Review Highlights from This Year’s IEEE Chapter Connections Newsletters (2025 Recap)

As we look forward to 2026, we wanted this month’s newsletter to simply provide a quick recap of key points, actions, and resources from the year’s previous five newsletters. Reminder: you can view past issues of IEEE Chapter Connections at any time.

Connect Your Chapter Officers and Stay Current in Your Reporting

Manage Officers
[ Manage Officers ]
  • Submit new officers or officer changes via the vTools Officer Reporting tool so they receive important communications and resources. Many officers end their term on 31 December 2025. Please be sure to report new officers before 1 January 2026, to ensure continuity.
  • Submit your 2025 Chapter meeting activity via vTools Events to qualify for the Geographic Unit Rebate, and start scheduling your 2026 activities.

Find Support and Training Resources

  • View the Chapter officer training videos available through the IEEE Center for Leadership Excellence (CLE).
  • Find contact information for Society/Council Chapter Coordinators who can help you support your Chapter via the IEEE Organization Rosters (expand on your Society/Council name and view Chapters and Chapter Support).

Receive Recognition and Provide Feedback

  • Download your Volunteer Recognition digital certificate from IEEE Collabratec®, via the “Certificates” link on your Member console.
  • Submit your Chapter to be spotlighted in a future newsletter (to [email protected]).
  • Submit your best practices via the Best Practices submission form.
  • Share the challenges you face with Chapter management, membership, and engagement, and identify what types of resources would help you with these efforts going forward (to [email protected]).

Get Ideas for Engagement, Outreach, and Activities

  • Organize impactful events for your Chapter members to engage, educate, and inspire. Consider a:
    • Senior Member Elevation Event for your Chapter/Section to encourage professional growth for your members, or
    • Distinguished Lecturer Program, which brings an expert to your Chapter/Section to share their knowledge and insights with your members.
  • Check the IEEE Rosters for Student Branch Chapters in your area and reach out to see how you can support their activities. And/or form new Student Branch Chapters if they don’t currently exist.
  • Reach out to your Section officers and volunteers from other Chapters and Affinity Groups in your Section (e.g., Young Professionals, Women in Engineering, Life Members), as well as in neighboring Sections, and in other parts of the world, to work together on your events. Working together can provide valuable opportunities to expand your outreach and impact, and also ease your workload.
  • Use the IEEE Volunteering platform to find additional volunteers to assist with your activities.
  • Leverage available IEEE Social Media resources, including editable social media post templates.
  • Continue to encourage renewals and new members - promote IEEE membership and encourage existing and new IEEE members in your Chapter's technical area to join your Society (and therefore your Chapter)!

Enjoy the holiday season with your loved ones! We appreciate your hard work and the energy you bring to IEEE and your local Chapter.
