Get to know your Education Society Fellows

Sorel Reisman

Dr. Sorel Reisman, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Information Systems and Decision Sciences at California State University, considers being elected as the IEEE Computer Society President and being elevated to an IEEE Fellow, two of his greatest professional achievements. Outside of work, Dr. Reisman enjoys spending time in Turin, Italy, playing tennis, and avoiding all emails, phone calls, and text messages on the weekends. His IEEE and society memberships have been a key contributor to the professional activities that supported his elevation to IEEE Fellow. According to Dr. Reisman, his accomplishments are a direct result of the work he has completed with other IEEE members who have become his good friends over the years.

Bonnie Ferri

Prof. Bonnie Ferri, is the Vice Provost for Graduate Education and Faculty Development at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Prof. Ferri feels that her greatest professional achievement to date has been making an impact on student success through innovations in education that transcend her department, college, and university. Her advice for anyone just getting started in their career is to seek advice and mentorship in ways to pursue their passions within their career options. Her favorite travel spots are the national parks in America, where she enjoys hiking, camping, searching for animals, and taking photos. She is thrilled to be elevated to IEEE Fellow, and would like to thank the Education Society for its support and tremendous work it has done.

Tarek S. El-Bawab

Prof. Tarek S. El-Bawab is the Dean of the School of Engineering at the American University of Nigeria. He considers his greatest professional achievement to be getting the field of network engineering recognized as a district higher-education disciple. His advice to anyone trying to get started in a new career is to have goals and good plans to accomplish them, work hard to get those done. His favorite place to travel is anywhere he can visit. He enjoys beautiful beaches and the mountains the most.

Murali Annavaram

Murali Annavaram, is a professor at the University of Southern California. Prof. Annavaram feels that his greatest professional achievement to date is bridging his academic research with industry impacts by building prototype systems for energy-efficient computing. Prof. Annavaram’s advice to someone at the beginning of their career is to find a professional passion and follow it to its logical end. On the weekends, he can be found biking and on hikes. Picking his favorite book could be difficult, but he believes it could be Cloud Atlas. Prof. Annavaram believes that teaching and research go together; he enjoys his research and uses it to improve his teaching.
