Pathways to Engaging with and Leading IEEE-ITS Society
Dear ITSS Newsletter Readers,
ITSS keeps growing in both quantitative and qualitative terms and has evolved into a professional community that resonates with values and aspirations of its members. ITSS is, and has been, committed to providing avenues for personal and professional growth of its existing members as well as attracting new members, aspiring young professionals in particular.
I would like to ensure that all current and future members of our vibrant Society are familiar with opportunities for engaging with and leading our society. Thus, I have depicted below various pathways that can take you to two-way communication and team-building avenues hoping that they will fuel your personal ambitions which in turn will align with ITSS’ values and nurture the Society’s further growth.
I would like to take this opportunity to draw to your attention the incoming Call for Nominations for election to the 2026-2028 ITSS Board of Governors (BoG). The new five BoG members will be elected to contribute to managing the Society’s resources, representing the Society within IEEE, and leading operations of technical publications, conferences, technical committees and other teams established by the Society.
Nominations, including self-nominations, should be submitted online at https://ieee-itss.org/about/bog/nomination/ by 15 May 2025.
ITSS is looking forward to receiving your BoG Nomination in due course.
Yours,
Ljubo Vlacic
2024 – 2025 ITSS President
2021-2027 Distinguished Visiting Professor, Southeast University, China
Professor Emeritus, Griffith University, Australia

◐ IEEE - ITSS Standards Committee
IEEE ITS Standards Committee
The IEEE ITS Society Standards Committee has launched a series of standards-related seminars aimed at sharing technological expertise among its members and a broader audience.
The first webinar in this series, titled "NIST Automated Vehicles Program," was presented by Dr. Thomas Roth from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in February 2025. The second seminar will take place on April 10, 2025 at 17:00 (Central European Time) and will cover “Developing V2X Standards and Specifications: A Long and Winding Road to Connected and Automated Vehicles?” presented by Jim Misener, Senior Director at Qualcomm, Inc. The third seminar, scheduled for May 5, 2025 at 17:00 (Central European Time), will focus on the “Use of Navigation Maps in Modern
Vehicles” from an OEM perspective, with insights from Thomas Monninger of Mercedes-Benz.
Currently, the committee is supporting ten Project Authorization Requests (PARs) that
have been approved by the IEEE Standards Association. Further details, including contact
information, can be found at the following link. We encourage colleagues interested in
submitting PARs related to the ITS domain to reach out to the ITS Standards Committee
for support.
◐ IEEE - ITSS 25th Year Anniversary
IEEE ITSS 25th Anniversary
Becoming a member of IEEE ITSS means joining thousands of engineers, enthusiasts, educators, learners, leaders, and collaborators around the globe to advance intelligent transportation technologies for the betterment of humanity. As an organization, we share expertise, learn, and collaborate in an effort to solve today’s transportation challenges, using advanced technologies to improve mobility, safety and the environment.
Share Your ITSS Story!
For the past 25 years, IEEE ITSS has been active in our global community, promoting education, conferences, standards and bringing the intelligent transportation community together. IEEE ITSS is looking to collect (and share) all stories and photos to share them with all of our Society members. Click on the button below and share your story…and thank you (in advance) for sharing your historical material with IEEE-ITSS in honor of our 25th Anniversary.
◐ Call for Distinguished Lecturer (DL) Nominations
ITSS Call for Distinguished Lecturer (DL) Nominations
Distinguished Lecturer Program
Distinguished Lecturer Program (DLP) connects Senior IEEE ITSS members, who are renowned intelligent transportation experts, with ITSS Chapters so they can share their knowledge, expertise, and insights into the future of ITS technology. The DLP is aimed at promoting the research areas of the IEEE ITS Society as identified by its Technical Committees.
IEEE ITSS DL Program Nomination Process
The IEEE ITS Society’s would establish an approved list of Distinguish Lecturers (DLs) managed through the IEEE ITSS Education website. The expectation is that an IEEE ITSS DL would be a long standing ITSS member, have a past record of ITSS activity (e.g., conferences, administration, publications), and be able to promote ITSS activities at the lectures. An open call for DLs would be announced and managed through a portal on the website.
